Duke Mansion

The Duke Mansion was built in 1915 by Zeb Taylor. It was tripled in size by its most famous owner James Buchanan Duke. Since then, the Mansion has been "home and host to leaders of the 20th century" according to its website. Duke’s most lasting legacies include Duke University, Duke Energy and the Duke Endowment, all of which "took shape at the home". It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and is now operated as a nonprofit hotel.

The house has one ghost associated with it, but this appears to be an historic case according to Diehl and Donnelly. The apparition was reported as being of a former owner named Jon Avery. His spectre was sighted a few weeks after his death by a female acquaintance. It is not known if the apparition has been sighted in more recent times.
